Many dog owners in daily life enjoy talking to their dogs, sometimes in short daily sentences, and sometimes even telling them about their day's emotions. So can dogs understand human language?
A study by the University of Roland in Hungary found that dogs - the most loyal friends of humans - can truly understand human speech!
Researchers at the school tested 13 dogs, including German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers, and Border Collies, and used magnetic resonance imaging to scan their brain operations while listening to trainers.
The study found that dogs, like humans, use the left half of their brains to interpret speech and the right half to analyze intonation. Dogs' brains can interpret what and how humans say, and they really understand what their owners say.
University neuroscientist and chief researcher Andy Dicks pointed out that the dog's brain cares about what and how humans say, and it will "receive" friendly and complimentary words with appropriate intonation. This discovery helps to enhance communication and cooperation between humans and dogs.
