According to the 2016 China Pet Industry White Paper released this year, the post-80s and post-90s make up 60% of the pet consumer group, while the post-80s consumer group has nearly 50% of pet owners.

According to the white paper, Chinese pet users are roughly divided into the main consumer group of the 80s, the trendy and avant-garde 90s, the quality conscious 70s, and the rational consumer group of the 50s/60s based on their age. Among them, 48.4% of the post-80s consumer group are pampered, becoming the most capable consumer group with a significant advantage. As the mainstay, the post-80s and post-90s together account for 60% of the total. With the increase of future age and income, and the trend of gradually stabilizing life, this proportion may further increase, and the consumption potential is also greater. A survey shows that pet owners shop for their pets 1-3 times a month, with an average monthly consumption of nearly 500 yuan. The main categories of purchases are pet food and supplies. Among them, over 30% of the annual expenses exceed 1000 yuan. From the perspective of consumption priorities across all age groups, the post-80s generation loves to purchase healthcare products, while the post-90s generation loves to purchase products and services.

The white paper also shows that the Chinese pet industry has entered a period of rapid development, with a market size exceeding 200 billion yuan in 2020. Consumers' brand awareness is gradually increasing, and the pet industry is about to usher in a "blowout era". From 2010 to 2014, the average annual growth rate of China's pet industry reached 50.7%. In 2015, the market size of China's pet industry reached approximately 97.8 billion yuan. It is predicted that by 2020, it will maintain a high-speed development rate of 32.8% per year and is expected to exceed the 200 billion yuan mark
